Opinion On “Saul Greenfield: In Defense of Physician Autonomy”

I just wanted to thank Dr. Greenfield for his thoughtful article, which helped gel thoughts that I have been having for some time now. I have always felt that one of my primary jobs as a physician was to be an advocate for my patients, and spend considerable time helping them navigate through insurance companies, hospital bureaucracies, and Medicare. Sometimes I feel more like a free lawyer advice fighting for my client than a doctor treating his patient. And I did not go to medical school to become a lawyer! Will the future lead to more of this? I hope not for us as Americans and for those considering medicine as a profession.
