Symptoms of dry sockets
Dry socket develops after a tooth has been extracted. It is the inflammation of the socket due to loss of blood clot. As there is loss of blood clot the bone and nerves are exposed to heat, cold, fluids and food. The result is this sensitive area causes severe pain. The pain can very well extend up to your ears. Bacteria may infect this place causing infections and swelling. The socket will also smell bad.Due to loss of blood clot there is delay in the healing. There is no new tissue growth surrounding the tooth extraction and so the recovery will be delayed. It usually takes 3-4 weeks for the gum to completely heal.In order to avoid a dry socket it is necessary to follow the doctor’s post-op instruction to the letter.
