Keeping a Clean Tank with Water Filter Media
Keeping a tank clean involves regular cleaning, making sure that filters and pumps are working properly and ensuring that sick fish are immediately spotted and quarantined. When it comes to cleaning the tank, you can use scrapers, sponges, and bleach to remove debris and clean tank decorations, gravel, and plants. Cleaning and replacement of water filter media is also a must. Water filter media is perhaps the most important component in any aquarium filtration system. Different kinds of media are used to separate solid particles from tank water to keep the water suitable for fish and plant life. However, the more particles the system filters, the easier it is to clog up. Most filtration media have a life expectancy of three weeks, after which you need to replace the media with a new one. It is easy to determine if the water filter media needs to be changed because the tank water starts to get cloudy and murky.
